Book Review: Jack & Jill by Kealan Burke (@kealanburke)

This is my book review for Jack & Jill by Kealan Burke.

The author is famous for his Turtle Boy series, but I have never been very keen on reading books in series so I only kept his name at the back of my mind. When I found that he had a stand-alone novella, I was very happy to give it a try.

I was not disappointed.

This was a dark, dark tale. Many mental torments and real-life abuses were described, so this is not for the faint-hearted, but it was, quite simply, a masterpiece. To establish horror and suspense with a novella’s length, and to deliver such a deeply horrifying and immersing story was genius. The ending definitely made me a die-hard fan: I felt stupid for not having a clue all along. Mr Burke is a dark magician, a genius.

Good Books to Read this Summer

Good Books to Read this Summer. Well, any summer really: Horror, crime and humor. I believe these to be the best genres for summers: the chills and excitement from horror and crime books mixed with hearty laughs from great humor books. Perfection achieved.

Review: THE REPLACEMENT by Brenna Yovanoff

I was almost going to pass this one by, but am glad I picked it up in the end. Macabre is the right word for this. Ms. Yovanoff‘s books will definitely be finding a place on my bookshelf.

THE SILENT WIFE by A.S.A. Harrison

This was an accidental find. The beauty of Amazon is you browse, click around and often land on new books that enthrall you. I had enjoyed this immensely: The Silent Wife. Some parts were truly eerie and spine-chilling. The dual viewpoints were especially enlightening.

PET SEMATARY by Stephen King

Let’s have a classic one today by the horror master, Stephen King. I watched my first pet cat die, and still remember every pull to my heart string to this day, so when I first picked up this story, I had truly believed that it was written especially for me.

This was horror and suspense rolled into one. Some of the pages were not only terrifying, but outright funny as well. Great read.
