THE SILMARILLION by J.R.R. Tolkien

I always imagine reading this book during the winter, preferably in a snowy country, by the fireplace, so here it is, my recommendation for this Christmas season. I assume J. R. R. Tolkien needs no introduction. If you have enjoyed his fantastical worlds, then this will not disappoint: The Silmarillion, where everything all began.

  1. I only came across this title last year when I was researching some background info on the Lord of the Rings books. I had planned to read it and then promptly forgot! Thanks for the gentle reminder :)

  3. I just moved from the north where we had only three seasons (last winter this winter and next winter) to Vancouver Island where snows hardly ever but I’m sure I’ll enjoy The Silmarillion. I can’t believe it I did not read this book yet. Have a wonderful New Year and thank you for following my blog.

  6. Confession: One of our assignments in high school was to read and dissect “The Lord of the Rings”, and that has forever turned me off JRR Tolkein. However, now that I’ve read your thoughtful post, maybe I’ve been too harsh and should give him another look. Thanks for posting this. :)

  8. I have started to read Silmarillion several times, only to lose my patience a few chapters in. It’s a shame, since I’m an avid fan of Tolkien. This post inspired me – this will be the year when I actually read the whole book! Thank you :)
